Eileen Starr Moderbacher is a painter. She completed her BFA at the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA at the California College of the Arts. She is a bi-coastal artist based in Brooklyn, NY and Berkeley, CA. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
Her focus was in oils on canvas up until two years ago; her works were mainly narrative. At that time she changed her primary medium to using water-soluble wax crayons on watercolor paper. And she has been building her own still lifes focusing on pattern, shadow, form, composition and vibrant color.
Most recently, in 2015, Eileen's painting "Myth of Heroism" was featured on the cover of Mission Village Voice Magazine, complete with a full-spread article. From 2009-11 Eileen was an affiliate artist in the Headland's Residence Program. In 2006 she received the Exhibition Award at Peninsula Fine Arts Center, VA, and the Best in Show Award for Arts on Fire X at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, CA.
