Katie Korotzer, Abstract Painter and Art Writer
Katie Korotzer is an abstract painter and art writer living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her paintings are abstract and non-representational. She considers her work to be expressive through the use of gestural mark-making, the language of color, and the interaction of shape, texture and negative space. Her intention in both visual art and in her writing is to invite the viewer to join in the experience of exploration along a spectrum starting with peaceful rest, going through active curiosity, contemplation and incorporation of renewed energy. After spending three decades in a professional career not related to art, Korotzer is finally coming to terms with her desire to practice art full time. She has realized that her connection to color as well as texture, shape and form is something worth expressing and sharing with others in the form of painting. She has also reconnected to her love of journalism and creative writing and since 2019 has published a regular column in The Piedmont Exedra titled ‘In The Artist’s Studio’. When writing artist profiles for her column she has a unique opportunity to meet artists, learn about their process and their inspiration, and to share their work with the world. Since 1987 Korotzer has been an art student, learning about technique, materials and various forms of expression through classes with private artist instructors, community college and workshops. Throughout this time she has exhibited and sold her work.
