Jane Sneed

Jane Sneed is a San Francisco Bay Area artist who creates paintings in transparent watercolors and drawings with India ink. She describes her work as spontaneous and expressive. She paints en plein air with joi de vivre, infusing her work with what is captivating, playful and lively about the scene. She sets up her easel on the sidewalk where the action is, painting people at play or work, locations of recreation or industry. Jane is enthralled with pure watercolor because it is lively as light itself: the viewer sees the colors bright and clear, projected and reflected back from the pure white paper to the eyes. Upon occasion, she draws in India ink and adds watercolor.

She grew up in an art-loving family in Southern California. Her mother Cleo Sneed studied watercolor with Rex Brandt at his Brandt-Dike Summer School of Painting in Corona Del Mar. Her father was in the carnival business, so action and color are central to her world. Artist website.
