My portrait photography always surprises me. Trying to capture a person’s mood or gesture that occurs in a split second often results in an image I didn’t “see” but only sensed. Here, I had attended a late afternoon party on a San Francisco Bay cruise. Walking the deck, I was caught by a glimpse of an elegant woman, mysteriously sitting alone in the early evening shade, deep in thought. Hesitant at first, not wanting to intrude, I could not help myself, and I do not believe she even noticed I was there. She remains a mystery woman, captured in soft, natural light whose Tri-X negative has been scanned into Photoshop.
